Kentchurch Court is a Grade I Listed stately house in the Herefordshire village of Kentchurch, close to the border with Monmouthshire. It has been the family home of the Scudamores for some considerable time and in the middle of the 19th century it was the site of a race meeting which took place on Tuesday 12th April 1836. The meeting was billed as ‘Kentchurch and Gresmont (sic) Races’ and opened with the Kentchurch Handicap over 2 miles which was won by Charity owned by Mr Williams. Later in the day the Partyseal Hurdle Stakes was won by Mr Scott’s Buffer, while the Hack Stakes saw Mr Newman’s Cripple defeat Gallipot and Bobadilla. After racing a Ball was held at the Market Hall.
